Treasurer launches new website

August 30, 2007

Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias recently launched a new website to better promote his office’s consumer programs and services.

The site -- www.treasurer.il.gov -- is a one-stop shop for information on low-interest loans, mortgage help, investment news and unclaimed property. It now features a single calendar for all office outreach events, downloadable forms and employment listings.

Prior to the launch on Aug. 9, the Treasurer’s Office maintained a separate website and web address for each service and left out valuable information on how to access office services or job openings.

Unique hits to www.treasurer.il.gov jumped to 2,518 on Aug.  9 from 164 on Aug. 8. Through Aug. 24, 52,239 users visited the site, and they viewed 82,985 pages. Traffic was highest on Aug. 14 and Aug. 20, dates associated with the Treasurer’s first eBay auctions of unclaimed property.

“The new website is easy to navigate, user-friendly and introduces continuity to all the programs and services offered by the Treasurer’s Office,” said Giannoulias, who awarded the design contract to Gammon Group of Joliet, the lowest, qualified bidder.

Several programs and services are featured on the site’s homepage, including:

  • Cash Dash, which seeks to reunite Illinois residents with lost cash and valuables
  • Bright Start, Illinois’ tax-free college savings plan
  • Our Own Home, a home mortgage assistance program
  • Green Rewards, a rebate program for buyers of hybrid vehicles
  • Employ Illinois, which backs low-interest loans to businesses
  • Opportunity Illinois, which backs low-interest loans to consumers and community development agencies
